Title pretty much says it all. No change in features or body style. The reason we'd wait is just to buy early in the model year vs. late in the model year for resale purposes (we put on low miles.) Also, maybe they work a few more bugs out but no guarantees. We were offered what we think is a pretty good discount for a 2019.
WWYD? |
| With a newer model, you're going to pay more vs. buying aging 2019 on the lot. |
| Take the discount. |
| Wait till the 2020 come out and then get a 19 if no major changes. |
| If no real changes, take the discount. |
About when does that happen? Is there a big difference in price on a 2019 now versus when the 2020s come out? |
| I don't know if this is still relevant. We bought our brand new 2017 Volvo in Jan 2018. We got a significant discount for the 2017 model year (15K). I would go with the 2019. |
| Some manufacturers don't discount the last model year well. We're looking at 2019s and the 2018s still on the lot are only $1k less out the door because of the lack of incentives. Crazy but that's their problem |

We are waiting for the 2019 RAV4's to be discounted. Toyota launched a completely redesigned RAV4 for 2019.
Unfortunately, we may be waiting a while. Apparently there are waitlists for the new RAV4, it is extremely popular. |
OP here. For $15k for sure I'd take the 2019. Right now the discount is about $6500. But I think the 2020's will be discounted about $4500 right off the bat if last year is any indication. So I think I'm saving about $2k to take a 2019. |
| What kind of car is it? How long do you plan to keep it? |
OP here. Honda Odyssey. 5-7 years. Current car is almost 6 years old (another Odyssey.) |

Take a car now. If there are not changes you are getting now a deal because of this is the end of the quarter, the half year mark and before new models come. You can get a TON of savings and if you wait for the new model you will get a fraction.
Example - on a Mercedes Benz at 45K you can get about 8 /9 K off at such point whereas if you wait for a new model you get 2 K or so if anything for a very long time. So you have to wait again for the same point in time you are right now. It is amazing moment so don't miss it. You can use this tool to help yourself to make a decision. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/price-trends/Honda-Odyssey-d592 You will save more now buying the car at greater discount that you would loose in resell value selling one later year model if there were no changes. Now you can actually take all this money and load the car to the brim and you will have awesome car to drive and if you wait for the new model you will get for the same money a bare bone model. I would not wait. After seven years drive it will make very little difference one year mark. Driving for seven years fully loaded car is a rewarding experience you deserve. |

| This color is lovely! However I know NOTHING about Hondas and I see it is a front wheel drive. I am more of SUV person and for those I would not get anything less then 4Wheel drive but maybe minivans do not need it? I really have NOOOO idea. I know that this is different animal altogether and I have no experience driving front wheel drives. I assume they are enough since Honda has good rep for safety and after all it is not off road vehicle so you don't probably need 4XW |
