UMD Orientation

Anonymous
Two-day orientation happened this week. Will be held a few more times in upcoming weeks. Students slept over in Easton dorm and it smelled horrible! A poster on College Confidential described the smell like a garbage disposal. Yup. Every dorm room on campus comes with a dehumidifier now but the smell in Easton was still overwhelming. My child said they immediately opened the window and kept it open but still felt sick the next day.

I'd appreciate hearing from other folks who attend orientation as the summer goes on -- how were the dorms?

My daughter goes end of the month. Easton was my old dorm in the 80s.

What else would you expect? UMD has never been accused of caring much about student life. This is probably a perfect orientation.

The OP said her kid opened windows and kept them open. She probably dorm rooms are no frills, but feeling ill due to a persistent odor is not normal.

This. My DS was at the same orientation and commented that the hall (not his room) did smell funny when they checked in that morning but that it was fine by that evening once things aired out...and he is one of those people who is extremely sensitive to odors.

The orientation was extremely well organized and I was very impressed overall.
