Blair STEM magnet CS program teachers

| I am a parent of DD going to Blair magnet upcoming Fall. She is going to Blair as she is very interested in Computer Science and has been enjoying competitions representing TPMS. Some parents mentioned that CS teachers here are leaving Blair. One of the good CS teacher left last year and two more are leaving this year. Can current Blair parents tell us the fate of the CS program? Are there other CS teachers in Blair to teach the magnet program? Why are teachers leaving? |

| I know that a current teacher was a student teacher, and, frankly, he wasn't very good. I wish the teacher who supervised him had been more involved. My kid came in from tpms interested in cs (not as main passion), but now they are really turned off. Have not heard about other teachers leaving. I know a Poolesville teacher is leaving. |

| I heard the current teacher is leaving for another job. He was a student teacher and is very good. My child enjoyed his class. He is a good teacher and kind and patient. He was hired to replace a teacher who left a year ago to pursue a political career and a third CS teacher intends to retire soon. I suggest you reach out to mr ostrander to find out who they intend to hire. There are tons of talented and committed CS students at Blair. Your child will have a fantastic peer group |

| One of the CS student teacher is going to teach Poolesville HS and the other teacher is going to UMD. Last year's teacher left to pursue a political career. Are there any other good teachers to teach CS? I agree that DD will be challenged by like minded peers but teachers play a big role as well. Are current Blair parents aware of any new hires for replacement? |

My DC has her now and has not mentioned it so I would think next year's freshman will still have her. |

Ms. Piper is not leaving. Mr. Khetarpal (K) is leaving. He was a teacher in training. He did not teach and gave ridiculously hard assignments and tests. The recent final exam he gave he admitted was intentionally made so hard that no one would finish. His assignments and labs did not include any rubric and he changed the grading as and how he saw fit so that no one easily got an A. Per him, he was preparing these freshmen kids for what college profs and courses are like. He will be gong to PHS.
Some of his assignments and tests had errors in them and atleast one of the assignment he gave was so hard that kids were up late trying to finish it. The next day he could also not solve the problem he gave in class. The kids kept finding flaws in his solution. So finally he told he kids that they should just submit a write-up instead of a programming solution (if they couldn't get it to work) and he would give the credit. This, after the kids wasted days and nights trying to program the assignment. |
