Hi All,
I am expecting my first child in October and am looking for daycare for DS to start around May 2020. We've tour some daycare centers and have put ourselves on 2 waiting lists. However, we're still looking for some cheaper alternatives. Do anyone have any recommendation for an in-home day care, in the S Arlington area? We've thought about nanny share as well, but not sure where to start. The nanny share forum on here are looking to start in the next 2-3months and I'm not looking to start until next year. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! |
The best way to do this is to ask your neighbors and anyone else nearby if they had a good experience somewhere. In homes can vary pretty widely. We found one that was run a LOT like the big centers, but only had 12 kids max.
The other thing to consider is that most in-homes can't plan a year in advance. Since they may only have 4 or 8 or 12 spots, they may not be able to guarantee your a spot the exact month you want. So while you may want to interview and find one now, you may not actually be able to get in. I know mine will give you the names of other women nearby who she is friendly with (and warn you off the ones she doesn't like) if she doesn't have space. We ended up paying for a few extra months to hold a spot in her care. We ended up doing this for both kids. It was worth the peace of mind to know we had the spot secured when we needed it. |
If you search this page, there are several threads and postings on S Arlington daycare providers in particular. |
Right on the edge of south arlington in baileys crossroads - Kareema Hazam. Extremely affordable and we love them. i don't think she's anticipating a spot open in May 2020 because some of the kids currently there are having siblings born this fall, so are taking the spots but it never hurts to check closer to the time because things do change. I'm not going to put her contact info here because it seems like those sometimes get deleted because they think it's the home daycare person themselves. Her name on the DSS site where you can look up inspections is Bishrul Hazam and you can find her info there. Also if you search her name on dcum a few of us parents have written about her recently because she has a spot currently. Anyway, if you ever were to reach out closer you can always ask to speak with a current parent and I've told Kareema I'd be happy to speak with prospective parents.
I also agree with talking to neighbors. Also search here: http://dss.virginia.gov/facility/search/cc2.cgi and also Arlington has a map I think. I've also heard people really recommend infants and toddlers as a way to find a home daycare: https://www.infanttoddler.com/ |
Thanks for the info. |
Look up C Child Care off of Columbia Pike. Inoka is wonderful. https://www.carelulu.com/childcare-in-arlington-va-22204/inoka-oodugama-family-child-care-arlington/5465 |
I second Inoka. |
I second Kareema, though agree last I talked to her she's not anticipating spots in 2020. But also second the recommendation for infant toddler, I've heard good things. |
And yes just adding still doesn't hurt to check since things change! |
I’m bumping this to HIGHLY recommend Inoka and C Care. Our older child is spending afternoons there this year instead of doing online K. He’s been learning so much! She follows a K curriculum that we have provided and also does fun STEM stuff. Today he learned how to sew! Anyway, just posting here in case someone with a K age kid sees this. My kiddo would welcome a learning buddy. |
I just posted a new post, but also want to mention here that this is the highly recommended Inoka who just opened C Care on Glebe. She’s put so much thought into this school and it shows.
