when you hear the following names, do you think of a girl, boy, or either?
avery aubrey emery would you name or not name your child one of these names because of its unisex character? |
| All girls, with the possible exception of Aubrey. I wouldn't give any of them to a boy. |
| I would say all have traditionally been male names but now see a lot of female use. |
| I also think girl, but I think I've heard of a boy emery. |
| I'd say girl, both, both, but would only name a girl any of those names. Anyone have any thoughts on Logan (boy v. girl)? |
|
Avery, aubry, emery - all girl, in that order of girl --> unisex. I know 2 Avery's (girls) - don't know any children with the other names.
Logan - definitely a boy. Biased by actually knowing one. |
|
Names in the OP -- all girl.
Logan -- all boy. |
|
actually I would have thought boy for emery
and girl for Logan |
| babynames.com says Avery, Aubrey and Logan are all both and Emery is a boy's name only but I agree with PP's that OP's names all sound like girls' namesand Logan is more boy. |
| To me, Avery is a boy, Aubrey is a girl. Emery can be either, esp. if it's spelled Amory. |
|
Avery--girl. Aubrey and Emory: boys
Logan--haver heard it for both, either, but mostly boys. |
|
2008 popularity:
Avery: 5,758 girls; 1,731 boys (Averie: 376 girls; Averi: 274 girls) Aubrey: 5,498 girls; fewer than 192 boys (Aubree: 1,218 girls; Aubrie: 666 girls) Emery: 669 girls; 300 boys Based on numbers, looks like Aubrey is most associated with girls now, followed by Avery, with Emery being the most ambiguous of the three. Logan: 13,705 boys; 726 girls. Still very boyish. |

Avery--girl but I wouldn't be scandalized to hear it for a boy
Aubrey--girl Emery--girl, but this is kind of a wierd spelling. Emory seems more like a boy. Don't know why. Logan--mostly boy but I do know one girl by that name |
|
Avery - girl, but doesn't sound too girly on a boy
Aubrey - same as Avery Emery - girl Logan - boy The only name I would consider for naming my own DS would be Logan |
|
Avery - boy, although have a new neice named Avery, so my perception will probably change. I think it's definitely trending feminine.
Aubrey - girl Emery - girl, although if it were spelled Emory I'd probably think boy. Logan - more boy (Baby Sitters Club, anyone?), but easily a girl name, too. I'd consider Avery and Logan for a boy. Although, in terms of names trending feminine or whatever, I've heard of two girls named Noah recently, so it appears that if you're really worried about picking a name that a girl might also have, nothing is safe.
