ECNL forcing Brave & Union Partnership

I don’t see many people attacking kids. I see people knocking clubs and teams, but that is not an attack on kids. My kids have played for awful teams and terrible clubs and they would be the first ones to tell you their team is bad. That doesn’t mean the players are bad. As Phil Knight said, “Success has a thousand fathers; Failure is an orphan.”

So true, other than maybe VDA, none of these ECNL clubs should be saying players who won't make their rosters and will play GA or dilute GA rosters. Deaf, dumb and or blind you ECNL sheep still are. People, ECNL families will choose GA's player development model over this Alliance of the week ECNL is currently playing in NoVa, believe that! Your kid does not matter at all, is the messaging from ECNL. they are saying we know we are the best ticket in town for your girl to go to college and play soccer. No pathways for pro development, no pathway for equitable evalutions, trials in comparision to male couterparts. Just college is what ECNL is selling you. That is more than enough for most, don't get me wrongg, but if thats not enough for you, then its time to open your eyes parents. Maybe don't go to Revolution but certainly SYC is looking the most appealing outside of VDA, only becuase they have added a well known TD in BP, like him or not, you know he has connections. So VDA and SYC have at them, different parts of NoVa but one takes the East, the other the West, and Union just fails because of ECNL greed, and of course Arlington will always be there, being mediocre

Interesting you’re so high on VDA and low on others. How have they fared vs local clubs boys and girls?

BP isn't the TD at VDA, nor was he ever a TD. CC was the TD at legacy FCV during BP's tenure. ML is the TD at VDA. Give it a year or two at VDA to determine if things are changing for the better.

This off-season will be interesting for them, there will be some families that are upset due to losing spots for incoming players, those incoming players will then need to determine if the program is worth it, especially if they're commuting far. Dust takes time to settle but around here sometimes it never gets a chance to.

VDA will continue its success. BP nor ML really run VDA girls.

VDA is so elite it runs itself!

And the 2007s/06s are not even ranked first in their ECNL divisions. These girls did not come from SYC. Union girls are playing at Yale, Columbia (x2), Brown and Dartmouth (x3) right now (past Union players). I don’t understand this merger but no one can say Union isn’t a good club if the goal is playing college soccer or using soccer to get into college (which is the goal of most ECNL parents and players).

Talk to us after this 2008 and 2009 class comes through. This alliance is ever evolving precisely becuase McLean knows its over after 2007. SYC saw that light, and are going it alone, BRAVE couldn't do it alone, so come join the party. IG posts from 2007 will have to hold you over for some time now

So you think taking a bunch of players, who come from privilege, money and the best k-12 schools in the country, and you place those kids at Yale, Columbia, Brown and Dartmouth is great recruiting? I would assume no less from these players and I would assume they were already going to these schools already. I don't think their skill at soccer was what got them into these schools; their skills allowed them to be part of a soccer team in college. Their money and privilege allowed them to get into these colleges.

Don't tell me overall numbers of players who are at these schools. Tell me how many of these players were developed at the academy from a young age on scholarship and are now playing at these schools or at other name colleges, then I might be impressed.

Ahh no - they were not already going to these school without soccer. A recruited IVY athlete will move the needle. All of the other factors are big too, but soccer gets them in.

She’s right ✅

I think someone going to sidwell, maret or Potomac is going Ivy with or without soccer.

We were looking at Union before this and some one told us AP was not going to be there, by a parent, nothing official. So maybe not merger related? Unknown we had specifically asked what team he might be coaching.

Who will be running the boys program at FVU?

- Either the girls get stronger because the top players from Union and Brave join FVU and weaker players go to other teams

OR

- Everyone freaks out and FVU loses top players because they're not willing to gamble on FVU working out. If you get an FVU offer, how can you be assured that a strong team is being built? There will need to be a lot of coordination among parents -- "are you staying?" "who is staying?"

The main question is, how many players are on a team?

Roster-counter-guy checking in!

Betmgm.com has it at 25 players -110

Just confirmed all of this news with my daughter. By now most Brave families are aware of this information. People are going to be confused and upset by this alliance for many reasons but some of us are pretty excited.

This is what a few people have said about 3 of the age groups there so far.

2010 - NVA and Union will be getting most of the Brave girls from this age group with the best 7 or so moving over to Union. The remaining players will fight for roster spots over at NVA.

2009 - The top 3 2009 players will also be moving over to Union. Once they start practicing with Union it shouldn’t be too long before offer letters are sent out.

2008 - The biggest player movement should happen here. Nearly all of the families are unhappy and openly speak about change. If the top 11 girls move to the Union 08s as expected this should be more than enough to challenge for a top spot in the Mid Atlantic next year.

3 other players on this team have ties to VDA as well.

Please remember that when all this happens you can comeback here and reference this post. In the meantime reach out to Brave leadership and inquire whether this rumor is true or not.

+1 😂😂😂

This might actually happen now. Back to reference this post and now I am hearing that parents from McLean’s most promising teams are uneasy.

McLean families, how far do you live from Robinson High School? Are you prepared to drive there to practice 3 times a week?

If Union practices at Robinson vs in McLean we are out. No thank you for that commute. Too many other clubs closer by. Yet to be seen. There were no practices at SYC during that merger so hoping the same... McLean needs to answer these questions and fast or risk snap decisions by the paying parents who are quite uneasy by overall lack of transparency with families and coaches and what seems like a last minute shake up 1 week before ID sessions…ED has done a disservice on her way out the door…will certainly impact her legacy…this might be beginning of end of McLean doesn’t get it together fast. Perhaps all will be fine but until McLean communicates more than a canned email it’s hard to know…

Wow. McLean Karen is on the warpath! Demands practices are in McLean. She’s uneasy and a paying parent! Too many closer clubs!
