There are a lot of Americans playing for Jamaica. How does that work?

Jamaican citizenship.

Pulisic has Croatian passport through his grandfather. He could have played for either the US National team or Croatian National team. The latter is a much better team, but he considers himself American.

For many players, playing for a different country is their only way into the World Cup. You see the same thing happen in the Olympics.
