I’ve recently started learning to lift. I’ve worked with PT at the big box gyms but for this I wanted someone that really focuses on body composition changes. I’ve got an amazing trainer now who pushes me to muscle failure and leaves me wanting more each session. She is different than the person who is certified but really doesn’t lift as their primary focus.
When we train, she pushes on the muscles I’m supposed to be working. She can see and feel if I’m not doing the exercise correctly. We are still on light weights as she is working on my form. Today we did lat pulls and I just couldn’t get the timing and coordination. By the time the set was over I was just pulling on the rope with no weight. In my research I found the type of gym I was looking for were few and far. In Rockville there is Supreme Sports. In Columbia there is Colosseum. In Baltimore as PP mentioned there is a starting strength gym. And in Manassas there is the shop gym. I really liked the Starting Strength gym and the program they offered. It’s a few intro 1:1 and then you can join the group class which really is an open gym time with trainers walking around making sure you are doing things correctly and available to spot you. Unfortunately it is too far for me to take advantage of the open gym classes. The owner of Supreme Sports in Rockville has created his own nationally recognized training program. One thing I was scared of was walking into one of these body building gyms. But everyone I’ve met has been nothing but nice. I’m loving lifting like this and getting off the treadmill. |
