Ok, just put that title up to trigger a few people.
But the real question is do you think that US Soccer will ok a new D.A. program for 'inside the Beltway' with the (eventual) departure of DC United and Loudon becoming ECNL? Would seem that PG County or DC proper have enough of a catchment area to field a team. |
It had been rumored not long ago they may be partnering with someone on that. |
What are the top clubs in PG county? |
Not sure. I had heard some of DCU DA came from that area. |
|
Problem with Stoddert is it mostly an upper NW league- practices and where players live. The players have the option of Arlington, (McLean- no DA but close by) or BSC. The club would need to upgrade coaches( licensing levels) and staff for DA. In addition, you would need to find more fields(practice facilities) and reserve them(DC makes it hard).
Solving the Rock Creek divide would be hard. It would be tough to for a player in SE/PG to make it through traffic at rush hour for a practice in NW or the reverse. |
| I don't think anyone in Chicago at US soccer really gets that deep into this particular Market as far as knowing the geography |
No |
| The city is putting soccer pitches over the old RFK stadium parking lots. Not sure if they are open yet but I’m excited to have fields accessible to people who live in DC or PG and don’t have a car. It isn’t just the cost of travel soccer that’s prohibitive to many but the physical inaccessibility. |
While I don't think Chicago is following commuting times, I think if a club raised this issue in their application to be a D.A., it might be something they would consider. Just not sure if anyone is making the case that they should be elevated to a DA level club in DC proper. |
| US Soccer doesn't know the landscape here |
PG residents should not have any expectation of these fields. Priority needs to go to DC residents. PG teams already use Wilson field ad nauseum... |
