My kids teethe late. My oldest got his first tooth at 10 months and lost his first tooth at 7 years 2 months.
Now my middle guy didn’t get his first tooth until 13 months and he is 7 year old and 4 months and doesn’t even have any loose one!! He goes to the dentist every 6 months and so far they haven’t said anything yet except this is kind of late but his xrays show he does have the big teeth so we will keep an eye on it. The dentist pointed out he was also late teething the 6 y/o molars, getting them around 7. Anyone have experience with this? When did your kid finally lose the first tooth? |
Mine is almost 7 and hasn't lost any yet. I lost my first tooth when I was about seven, as well. Our dentist said that if they teethe late, they lose late. It also tends to mean that the adult teeth come in quickly. |
My son got his first tooth around 4 months, but didn’t lose his first tooth until he was 8. He’s 13 now and still has 12 teeth to lose. |
DS, lost his first tooth at 7yrs and 6 months. Around 6 yrs and 10 months, his first adult tooth sprouted behind the first tooth he lost. Both of my kids are dealing the adult teach breaking through well before the baby teeth are even lose. |
7 years and 8 months for our oldest DC's first tooth. DC also got her teeth late, the first around 11 months. |
I don't remember the dates for #2 but #1 got his first tooth around 11 mos and lost it at the end of 1st grade, about 7 yrs old.
As others have said, our dentist said if you get them late, you lose them late. It meant DS didn't start invisalign until end of freshman year since our orthodontist wanted him to lose all his baby teeth before doing that. |
Are they going to start pulling them soon? I thought most dentists didn't want the baby teeth in much past age 13. |
I never lost a single tooth, they were all pulled. Interested to see if dd will be the same! |
I had a sibling who was 8. It wasn't really a big deal. |
My son...8 |
PP: not yet - I ask at every appointment and they say that he’s fine, so far. One is loose right now, but that’s it. He has always been on his own schedule, for every milestone, and he’ll get their on his own terms. ![]() |

FWIW, my second DC lost 9 teeth once he turned 13 - all in a row. The adult teeth started to grow (shark teeth) before the others had fallen. Now they are mostly in line and only the baby molars are left. Also, DC is also my kid who got teeth earlier - around 7-9 months, as opposed to older sibling who got first at 11-12 months. |
8 y/o for my son. Now he is 9.5 and has only lost 6 teeth. Dentist is not worried. |
