Favorite read-aloud books to get into with a 1st grade boy? (going into 2nd next year)? he's a proficient reader, but looking for series of chapter books that would be good to read together (I'd read to him). he's into Minecraft, Star Wars, superheroes, science, etc.

He and you would like the Frank Einstein books, a mix of humor and science. Some big word and complicated concepts make it a good read aloud, even for a proficient reader.

The Lightning Thief & series
Tales of a 4th grade nothing series by Judy Blume

Magic treehouse if he hasn’t read yet

Chronicles of Narnia would be a good series. my 6 year old enjoyed the Hobbit when we read it to him.

I wouldn't read him a series that he can read on his own, Magic Treehouse, Dog Man, Captain Underpants and the like. He can probably tackle those by himself now, maybe they are read togethers, he reads a few pages you read a few pages.

Mrs Frisby and th Rats of Nigm.

The full length animated movie is on Netflix too- which is a nice bonus for kids once you finish the book.

My bright 7 yr old got pretty disinterested in reading this year and didn’t want to read anything other than graphic novels and would poo poo any chapter book I wanted to read to him (and wouldn’t pick one).

He agreed to this one bc the librarian (male and my son adores him) recommended it.

It was so good I often read past where we stopped once he fell asleep. A very sweet story and interesting story. My son and I loved it and it got him excited about reading chapter again

T.H. White, The Sword in the Stone
E. Lockhart, Toys Go Out
E.B. White, Stuart Little
Tolkien, The Hobbit
Natalie Babbitt, The Search for Delicious

I agree with PP that now is the time to read the epic stories he can't fully comprehend by reading himself yet. Hearing yoru voice interpret these wonders is priceless.

This is the low end of the target age group for Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
If you haven't read Captain Underpants, they are also good for kids that age.

If you want chapter books with better story lines, an oldie, but goodie:
LLoyd Alexander's Book of Three series (book two, The Black Cauldron, was made into a Disney movie years ago)

I also read my boys children’s versions of the Iliad and the Oddesey that year. They really liked it.

My DS also loved this version of the Odyssey last year when he was that age. I read it aloud this year to my multiage primary students, too, and they couldn’t get enough.

My Dd age 6.5 and I read the books "you read to me, I read to you". They are fun as there is your side, their side and parts you read together.
