How is this legal or ethical? Why weren't all the teachers fired? This is scandalous. |
So wait? Was this under the newly rehired college counselors watch? |
Long thread on this already. |
Not helpful. Long thread on the lawsuit and the mastermind but not this specific clause. This is unbelievable. |
Can you translate this for the non-legal people? Did the Supreme Court rule against Sidwell? |
OMG. So much freakin drama with that school. |
Didn't rule against them, but in the complaint it says that Sidwell agreed to pay the family $50,000 and change grades as part of an earlier settlement. I didn't realize grades were for sale or could be part of a settlement. Seems extremely dishonest and unfair to other hardworking children without litigious parents. |
This is a petition for certiorari. It's filled on behalf of the family, and they are asking the supreme Court to review their case. This is in no way an opinion from a court. Very few petitions are ever granted (the supreme Court decides which cases it will hear). This petition will almost assuredly not be granted. You can Google and learn more. |
No. The family is asking for the Supreme Court to consider their appeal of the lower court decision (which obviously wasn't in their favor). Filing a cert petition doesn't mean the Court will take the case. |
Why do you assume it is true? That's the parents'/student's brief, not the school's. That's only one side of the story. |
Link? |
If you read the court document the court agrees that Sidwell discrimated and retaliated against her by purposefully applying different grading standards to her. |
But OP only provides the parents' brief above. Sounds to me like a harassment suit and the school settled for $50K just to get rid of problematic parents and child. |
And changed her grades without firing everyone involved. Shady. |
If you read it, it says the initial grades were calculated incorrectly, and the change was a correction. So the change would then be the fair thing, not unfair. |
