4 year old not into LEGO?

Anonymous
DS is 4 years old and has never been into LEGO or really any building toys/activities (blocks, duplo, magnatiles, etc.). If he receives a set, he'll engage in assembling it with assistance, but he has no interest in spending time creating things. FWIW, he's not a huge fan of puzzles, either, though he can do them. Loves pretend play, still loves his cars, train sets, action figures, all things super hero, riding his scooter. He's doing well in preschool, though has lagged a bit with fine motor so I assume this could be part of it, and at 3 we learned he was extremely farsighted so needed glasses, which could have played a role as well (though that should be resolved by now). I know all kids are different, but with such an emphasis on building toys these days I feel like we're a bit of a failure....and of course I fear he is doomed to a life of sucking at math. Anyone with a reassuring story about their non-LEGO loving kid?

He's still young.

Yes. My non-LEGO-loving child is 5 years ahead in math. No worries there. Terrible handwriting though.

Are you joking? He's 4. There's a whole lifetime to do legos. All kids are different. You're going to find it a long hard slog parenting if you get worked up about whether or not your kid is doing Legos as much as other kids.

My son was never into Legos. He went to Stanford. I don't think his lack of Lego-playing negatively affected him.

Don't stress over stuff like this. Kids like different things. Maybe he will like LEGO eventually or maybe not. Surely you understand that liking LEGO is not a prerequisite to success in life. This is nothing to worry about. Anxiety over meaningless stuff like this is worse for kids than not liking this or that activity. Try to relax.

Yep get him tested, a HUGE red flag

LEGO is a toy. Your child doesn’t have to love every toy.

My son loves LEGO, but wasn’t into it at 4. He didn’t get into LEGO until he was 6 or 7.

My new business idea.

Maybe he is annoyed with you because you are pedantic and call them LEGO.

Jesus H. Christ, the crap some people find to worry about.

My kids (boy and girl) were never into LEGO, preferring Playmobil. They're both plenty advanced in math, so it didn't hold them back.

Hi I'm 38 and I'll totally take his lego!
