Kitchen Aid Mixers - types?

Anonymous
I got a really good deal on a Kitchen Aid 4.5 qt mixer in the Black Friday sales. However, it is the bowl lift kind rather than the ones I've typically seen where the bowl is stationary and the top part of the mixer lifts. I believe this retails for close to $300 but I got it for $150. It's a K4SSWH model. Does anyone know anything about the relative merits of the bowl lift versus the "regular" kind? Maybe this is an obscure question but I can't find a good answer to my question anywhere on the web and I've been looking! I'm excited about it but don't want to use it until I'm sure I'm not taking it back. Should I keep it? I've been wanting a stand mixer for awhile!

I have always had a bowl-lift kind; my mother did so that's what I got. I think it's just a preference thing but I also think the bowl is bigger on the bowl-lift kind so if you ever cook for a crown or double recipes that might work in your favor.

OP here. Thanks! I decided to open it and use it (couldn't wait). I think I prefer the bowl lift kind after using it (versus my moms which is not bowl lift)!

it seems to me that a lot of people prefer the bowl lift because it seems sturdier than lifting the entire machine's top.
