$5.00 to stream a movie from my own tv in my own home?
Are they charging this much to make up for the loss of business from people who are watching illegally on illegal websites? $5.00 per movie is more than I paid to rent a physical movie at Blockbuster. Hell, even the red box kiosks are cheaper than $5.00 Has the movie industry lost their damn mind? |
| Why does movie popcorn cost more than it did 10 years ago? Why does a loaf of bread cost more than it did 10 years ago? Why do I make a bigger salary than I did 10 years ago? |
| WTH are you talking about, PP? Blockbuster used to charge $5 for a 3-day rental. Not to mention there are plenty of movies on iTunes that are less than $5. |
PP should be OP. |
| Shouldn't it be cheaper too stream from home? |
$4.99? That is still $5.00 my dear. |
| The cost of a DVD is less than $1. Probably $0.25. Practically everything is licensing and royalties. |
Convenience factor OP. Most people don't want to go out and rent a movie and have to return it. Most people's time is worth more than 5$. (I haven't seen a movie rental place in DC in a while.) It's the same reason kindle books cost almost as much as physical copies. Costs nothing to print and distribute, but you can have it instantly sent to your device. |
| I never paid $5 per movie at Blockbuster. |
I think OP meant there was no need for a physical Blockbuster with rent and salaried employees. |
How much does popcorn cost now? I have not been to the movies in over 20 years. |
| I don’t know where this mythical Blockbuster is but if you’re upset about streaming prices, go to the redbox or add discs in the mail onto your Netflix sub. |
| I feel you OP. Isn't this why people have Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime so you can get watch a bunch of movies/tv already for 10 bucks a month |
1 movie is acceptable I guess. I can take a $5.00 hit. But what if I want to do a multiple movie weekend of 4 or 5 movies? That would be damn near $30. |
| Prices aren't set based on what it costs to produce something, but based on how much people will pay for it. People will pay $5 to stream a movie, but they wouldn't pay $5 for a video rental. Companies charge what the market will bear. |
