smartwatch for kids that can function as cell phone with separate number

Does such a thing exist? I don't want the kind that has to be within 10 meters of an existing cell line. I use Sprint for cell service but am willing to use a different provider for this.

Yes. I use my watch on weekends rather than my phone.

Yes but that will be an expensive watch. I looked into this. The watch is not completely independent. It needs to be tied to an iPhone. The iPhone has to share the same number with the watch. I could not give my son a watch and tie it to my phone if I wanted to be able to call him. I can’t call myself.

i happened upon this today:

(Not sure if the seller is aware that you can cut the regular SIM card into the micro SIM size, assuming that's what s/he means by "wrong SIM card for Verizon." https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/iphone/cut-nano-sim-card-3505896/ )

We have a verizon gizmo. You don't need verizon service. Its $15 a month if you are not on verizon, $5 a month if you are a verizon customer. Love ours

The seller's link isn't working but I'm pretty sure this is the model:

Do not do this. They are new in the box for a reason. We did this and could never get it set up with tmobile. It has to be on a 2G network and they don't do it anymore. It was a nightmare and I had to pay months of $30 service for no service as no one could get it set up. This is not what she means.

Ahh, that could well be the issue! Good catch!

I looked at this before buying a gizmo. You would an iPhone and an Apple Watch for your child and the watch must be the one with the cellular service. He will be able to take only the watch with him.

They have an apple watch that you can a phone number for and use as a phone but the gizmo is much cheaper if it gets lost and service is either $5 or $15. More if you get insurance (I did but I think it was a waste of money).
