Just learning more about DC Youth Football Club and see (at some levels) they are in the same division as Achilles, though DCYFC is cheaper.
Anyone have any observations about these two clubs and how they would compare? |

| Achilles has issues apparently |
DA-level '05 who has had enough of the insanity and wants to have fun and enjoy the game, but still play at a competitive level. Tired of the 4+ a week. |
At least this year, there's only one 05 team at Achilles (who knows about next year - communication is not one of the club's strong suits). Sal seems to care only about the EDP teams and the 05s play in EDP, but I believe it is the lowest division. I don't know a lot about that team, but it does not appear to be one of the favored teams at the club that gets the attention, opportunities and resources. There are a good number of posts on this site about how non-favored teams are treated that you may want to review. It is fair to take those posts with a grain of salt since they are anonymous, but there seems to be a consistent theme among the complaints. Also, I'm not sure Achilles is where you want to be if you want to escape DA-like insanity. At all. |
| Here's a vote for DC Youth --- web site is great and explains how different it is here if you want something between DA and a bad travel team / glorified rec. We have some amazing players that either came from DAs or have gone off to DAs. It's an international crowd without the egos and of course, there are players who are not talented, but you don't come here looking for some team or coach that is selling the Div 1 dream. If you want good, fun, well-run soccer experience, then come to a practice is prolly best. |
Then avoid Achilles. They're the most competitive, cutthroat team in the area, and I mean that in both a good and bad way. |
Agree 100% |
| Don’t know much about DCYFC but I know the 05 Achilles team was one of the first he started with and therefore gets a good bit of Sal’s attention. A mix of players from other clubs, many former BSC. They do ok in EDP and tournaments. Should be a step down from DA level which is what you are looking for. |
| DCYFC is the worst. Coaches never knew my son's name. Mitch's desperation to constantly promote the club becomes exhausting, particularly when he makes promises that he can't keep. His fury when learning that some of his DEVELOPMENT players were trying out for other travel teams was really something to behold. I wanted to like it, I really did. |
| How is Achilles ‘06 team? |
Check out some of the other threads. It was a big mess this year. |
All I've seen is the '09 team, and they were very impressive...one of the best teams in the area. Although I've heard/read that they tend to bring in lots of guest players for tournaments, so who knows... |
| As far as I know they only have 2 09 teams and both play in Sam Select. One has lost almost every game. The higher team is in the middle of their division. Where did you see them that they were so strong? |
