Is there a option between travel and rec? New and need help!

Anonymous
We are new to NOVA, specifically the Vienna/McLean area. My boys are trying out now for McLean travel to see how they fit. I know about the rec option in the organization but is there something in between? I am familiar with MSI Classic and that was a great fit. If it is just travel or rec out here, when do you make the decision to go for travel vs not? It is a lot of money and commitment (I am the only parent getting two boys to practices and games). Do you consider the level of team they are placed on and only commit if it is the top two levels? What are factors I should consider? I know there is no “correct” decision, just trying to get enough information to make the best decision for us. Thanks!

A lot of people choose Arlington's ADP program as an in between program.

I'd also recommend you look at Premier AC, which is a smaller club located in Falls Church. Most boys practice at the same field either at the same time or right after one another. It has saved our sanity!

PPA is more in Bethesda, but they are a good middle ground.

OP. Super helpful, I’ll look at these options. For travel, at what level placed do you continue vs finding another club? Nit thinking the level 3 or 4 team is worth the money/time.

Arlington has ADP. Tryouts are soon. Look at the Arlington soccer association website.

Premier AC is still having tryouts. What ages are your boys?

OP you want a development league. PPs are right that MSI classic and PPA are the ones to go to on the DC/MD side (along with Stoddert all stars now?). But go to something close to home.

I agree with a PP Premier AC is a smaller club in that area that is great at developing kids. They don't have the crazy pressure of a huge club. But if your looking to get to a bigger club. They may be a great spot to develop without getting labeled as a number.

OP, mine are u11 and u13 next year. Travel not a good fit for u13 , looking at either SFL or development league for him if he’s not too old. U11 is talented but not super driven. Awaiting tryout results but also looking into both Arlington and Premier clubs. This in is helpful, thank you.
