Walter Johnson vs. Bullis

Anonymous
Hi! Does anyone have any thoughts comparing the merits of Walter Johnson compared to Bullis for a boy? Thanks!

Sigh. Why would it matter if your child is a boy or girl?

Bullis has a tremendous STEM program.

But, do you want to pay that much money when the difference may otherwise be negligible?

Is your child struggling right now? Is there a reason you are looking at a private vs public?

Will your child be a recruited college athlete?

Bullis is small. WJ is large. WJ areas will get rezoned to Woodward HS in several years. Bullis you don't have to worry about rezoning. The grounds are nicer in Bullis (because you are paying for it), and the surrounding area has a more suburban feel. I'm not pro/con for either schools but these are the differences.

Bullis has a beautiful campus, bad reputation, and snooty parents.

Bullis is a great school, so is WJ. Big vs small, both are very great options.

WJ has outstanding STEM as well (ACES program allows students to double up on science classes in 9th grade and end up with several science APs by graduation). You’ll want to compare ability to accelerate math and science classes at Bullis compared to WJ.

I have a child at Bullis that was able to be accelerated beyond what could be offered at a MCPS public school. Most of my child's teachers had PhDs in the subject area they taught. Several were faculty members at local universities.

I have another child in public but not at WJ. Besides smaller class sizes and the qualifications of the faculty, the biggest improvement is the honor code. Students can be expelled for bullying, sexual harassment, and racial slurs. Drugs also are nonexistent on campus where in public school it's an open drug market.

Private school is expensive but worth the investment.

If its so bad, then why are so many kids going there?

Was just at two meetings in the last 5 days. That may not happen.

Sure hon.
Anything to justify overpaying for an inferior product.

Last year, there were kids caught doing edibles in the classroom at Bullis who were not expelled. I’m not sure where the previous poster gets their information about drug use or discipline policy.

Because there are a lot of stupid rich parents that believe anything you pay for is better. I know this from experience.

Are there any old family monies going to Bullis? Nope.
