We have an old iPhone 4s that I am thinking could work for our middle schooler. I only want him to be able to call, text, and maybe access one or two apps. I plan to disable Safari and pretty much everything else besides calling and texting. Is this possible with such an old phone? |
Most carriers don’t support anything older than the iPhone 5. |
Our middle schooler has an iPhone 4S. Our carrier is Verizon and there was no issue with service. Works great for us. He would prefer a newer phone though. |
Thanks, that's good to know that Verizon will provide service. And of course they all want a newer phone, don't they? ![]() |
I would get a cheap new iPhone only because the battery on an old phone will not last and the cost to replace is $$$ and many apps and other stuff will no longer work. I'd get an SE or 6. |
Will you want him to be able to use phone to check his school account? Our kid did and that was one reason for upgrading. Also agree the battery stinks. |
The carrier will support almost anything, but an iPhone 4s is no longer supported by a security updates, so basically her sons phone will be hacked tomorrow. |
Just moved my 6th grader to an old iPhone 6, unlocked it and got Ting discount service to provide cellular service. No social media and locked down cellular data to only 100 MB for emergencies and only for certain applications. |
I just bought my 8th grader an iPhone 6s. |
We just bought our younger kid an iPhone 6s. Our older kid's first phone, several years ago, was a 4 and then it was a great option. But while we still have it, we never considered using it for #2 because 1) it supports practically nothing anymore (including security updates) and 2) the battery is shot and not worth replacing. |
Our MS has our old IPhone 4 and it works through AT&T |
Our child has a iPhone 4s. He wants a iPhone 5s |
Throw that iphone 4s in the trash. Get an iphone SE if you want something cheap. |
How are you guys locking it down so they have no access to YouTube and social media? I am about to cross this bridge in the next few months… |
I would love to know this too - are you finding it at a link somewhere? |
