I know there have been many threads about NYC but I wanted some specific advice. We'll be spending Christmas in Manhattan; we'll be there for 3 days, staying near Times Square. Wanted some opinions on:
1) What might be a good Broadway show/musical that our 3-year old might like? 2) Other than visiting the Rockfeller Center, the Central Park and nearby areas, what else did people love doing with their child in NYC around Christmas? Thanks! |
| we are too. there is a kids museum on upper west side that is great, as is the natural history museum. bubby's in tribeca is wonderful with kids. there should also be skating in bryant park behind the public library. also, the window shopping on 5th ave is pretty fabulous for kids. |

| Walk by The Plaza (Eloise!) and visit FAO Schwartz across the street. |
| Broadway show for a 3 year old? Terrible idea! |
| A trip to Macy's to see Santa. They have a Christmas wonderland. Looking at the Windows on 5th Avenue. i agree with the PP Broadway show with a 3 year old is a horrible idea. |

I think the best kept secret must be the birdhide though...we had it to ourselves the entire weekend. Red-knobbed Coots, Sacred Ibises , South African Shelduck, Kelp Gulls , Black Crakes , Little Grebes and Common Moorhen kept us entertained. The Coots were quite aggressive towards the other birds..probably because they had chicks. We noticed many Great White Pelicans as well as Black - crowned Herons flying overhead. The reeds were alive with Red as well as Yellow Bishops and Cape Weavers. White -throated Swallows kept skimming the water right in front of the hide. Namaqua Doves as well as Cape Turtle Dove did a fly past every now and then. I noticed one little Cape Wagtail and another little brown bird in the reeds which I suspected was a warbler of sorts.
There were two highlights though....on two occasions we had the pleasure of watching a African Marsh Harrier hunting on the opposite side of the waterhole....it eventually caught something to eat but I was not sure exactly what had been on the menu. The other highlight was the arrival of a couple of Spoonbills...they arrived mostly one by one, had a quick bath and then flew off again. cheap rent a car Spain |
