Going to be new to MCPS in the fall — 7th grade. What is Global Humanities for Social Studies?

The counselor described it as a pilot magnet program but the principal believed there was a large enough cohort of students who would benefit from it, that he expanded it all 6th graders this year. They will have it next year, too. I can’t find anything on the MCPS website about it. Is it just an enriched version of the regular class? What schools have it?

There have been some debunked claims of schools offering this to the whole grade. I'd double check your info.

Certain schools offered it to whole grades, except students in double reading or ESOL. They had only a handful of such students anyway. However, those schools have now been reprimanded by the system for vanity sizing. Next year will be different.

Unlike “advanced”, which was about teaching a set of skills, Global actually explores different topics. The work should be notably more challenging, but teachers received little training and that hasn’t been remedied for next year. The biggest assist was a shared Google drive where the true Magnet teachers shared materials they made. Later, the Global teachers added what they thought met the same rigor.
