Now that the TV series is over, I’m really wondering what will happen in the books (if they ever get finished lol). In broad strokes, I could see the same fate for the very main characters: Jon kills Dany when she goes full Targ; Sansa rules an independent North; Bran somehow becomes the ruler of the remaining 6 kingdoms with Tyrion as his Hand; Jon is exiled to the “Nights Watch”/the Wildlings.
But what about Everyone Else? Euron and Victarion are headed toward Daenerys. Euron thinks he can control a dragon. They also have an actual wizard traveling with them! Brienne was captured by Lady Stoneheart and seemed ready to kill Jamie to save her own life. And everyone seems pretty convinced that Aegon Targaryen (the not-Jon Snow one) is real. And he’s already in Westeros, with the Golden Company. The showrunners and writers have shown that they are willing to write out characters and give their stories to others (Fake Arya’s story became Sansa’s, Jorah is sort of a combination of himself and Jon Connington, Gendry takes the place of Robert’s one highborn bastard who’s name I can’t remember right now). Do we think there are certain people/plot lines in the later books that were given to different show characters? Will George ever finish the books? I’d say the show ending will light a fire under him to finally finish, but it’s been since 2011 (omg) since A Dance with Dragons came out and still nothing. |
| Books aren't coming, sorry. |
| I honestly don’t think we’ll get another book. But I hope he comes out with a statement at some point with just the bullet points — what happens in the books that’s different from the show? |
| I have little hope he'll ever finish them. |
+1. Once someone else got their hands on his stories, he lost interest in them. |
| Normally I’d be fine with the 8-10 years between books, but he’s already 70 and looks to be in awful shape. I think the best we can hope for are posthumous drafts. |
And I’d honestly be fine with someone else writing the story but it’s also known that George is pretty free-wheeling with the books. I read that he didn’t even plan for Catelyn to be killed at the Red Wedding originally. So he doesn’t keep good notes or outlines ... so it would be really, really hard for someone else to finish his works. C’mon GRRM. It’s two more books. Just two. He wrote the first three in like 5 years total. |
