CCL Scrimmagfest - Good Event or Waste of Time ?

Anonymous
Although the location in Fredricksburg was a bit of a hassle, it was a nice weekend, grass fields were great, and there were refs at one or two of our games.

We played a couple of teams we have played before during regular season, but we saw lots of girl teams in our age we have never played before.

Excluding one game where we tied, we won the rest of our games pretty easily - so kind of a wasted opportunity for our team to play new competitive teams.

Came away feeling it was a waste of our time, traveling that far for an all-day tournament to play teams we have beaten before.

Do they do any kind of sorting in this Scrimmagefest?

Was this just our experience?

We had about the same experience where we had already played the others teams before this year (U10 boys). I thought it was going to be a waste of time (and too HOT), but my son said he liked the format and had a good time. That was good enough for me. I was also very impressed with the fields. We also went over and watched some of the State Cup finals. Overall, a pretty good time with no pressure over the scores. Even the parents were pretty relaxed throughout.

I don't know. Sounds like a fun day to me, but it depends on the age. Isn't it just for younger kids? At U8,-U13 it should just be about fun.

Waste. There were no refs and no new teams when we played. We drove an hour to play the clubs located 5-10 mins from ours.

Our team had no competitive games on Saturday.

We did those events a few years ago. I told my DS that those games didn't matter and this was the time to try out his moves, quicker passes, its ok to make mistakes etc. It turns out the coach treats it as another match when it should be a chance to give players opportunities at other positions and make it less stress-free. It was a fun event but the kids came off talking more about the score than about trying some new moves or using some freestyle/flair.

We have had fun there too, but this last weekend was really hot. We had no subs, no coach, and few refs. This was not ideal to say the least. But my child got a lot of playing time, and we did play teams we haven’t played before.
