TSH elevated - how long did it take for Synthroid to lower?

Anonymous
I was at a 2.7 and my RE prescribed me 25 mg of Synthroid low dose

Coincidentally 11 days in and I had blood work done and my TSH shot up to 4.5!

Makes no sense to me that it went up after me taking the meds (fasting in the AM every day before breakfast) and I’m hoping that was a fluke by the lab.

For those on synthroid- how long did it take to get your TSH to a good level below 2.5?

Any chance you’re pregnant? Or were you on Estrogen recently?

My first thought is pregnant. It took several months for Synthroid to lower my TSH from 4.5 to 0.9. As I recall, it dropped quickly to 2 but took some time to get it under 1 (a decade ago).

Both my young son and I have elevated TSH (mine had been controlled my entire pregnancy and then was somehow almost 10 at delivery ... very scary). He, between 1-4 years old was monitored closely and even on mediation for a short time but is so thin and energetic and such a touchy sleeper that we decided (we including doctors) just to watch closely and not medicate. All that to say, between the two of us there is lots of TSH testing and I have seen both of our numbers jump around a lot. One of my doctors thought it might depend on which lab processed the blood work but his was once 2.5 and 4.7 within two weeks of each other. So, I would not get overly worried about it at this point.
