Ovulate from both ovaries?

Anonymous
Is this possible/common? I am pretty sure I ovulated in both ovaries this month as I get extended days of cervical mucous. This has happened a few times. Is this normal?

This is how you get fraternal twins.

OP here--does this happen frequently? It had not happened to me until about a year ago and I mentioned to my doctor and he ignored--just wrote it down in chart. Now it's happening every few months.

How old are you? Irregular ovulation like that can occur during perimenopause (which can last for 5-10 years).

OP here--I should also point out that I have ovulation pain in each ovary at different times. I have cervical discharge at different times in the month followed by period. I do not feel like I am ovulating in both ovaries simultaneously. Hope that makes sense.

You can definitely release more than 1 egg in a cycle. Its not uncommon. PP is correct about that being the cause of fraternal twins (although u can release from one or both ovaries in a cycle). I don’t think that timing is perfectly simultaneous either (but I think it’s usually pretty close together, certainly is in the case of twins). I did NCIVF and had 2 eggs naturally. Both were the same maturity and would have been released very close together. Both from same ovary, so I wouldn’t have noticed pain on both sides. I’d ask a doc about the ovulating at noticeably different times in ur cycle.
