Clomid and ovulation tests

Anonymous
I've always had really irregular periods. My old OBGYN put me on clomid when we were TTC #1. She told me not to bother doing tests to see whether I was ovulating, so I didn't. Ended up getting pregnant in cycle #3.

Since we've moved, I now have a new doctor and am TTC #2. I'm back on clomid, but this doctor told me to do the ovulation predictor tests on days 12-17. Well, its day 17, and all the tests have come back negative, except for 1 I did at a completely random time just because I was really frustrated that all my morning tests were negative (I'm not putting much stock in that test).

Here's my question: My first doctor said not to bother testing to see whether I was ovulating while I was taking clomid. The OPK box says that clomid can affect the results, although I always thought that it caused a false positive. Can clomid cause a false negative on the ovulation predictor tests? Anyone have that happen to them? I'm hoping that the test just didn't work and I actually did ovulate, but maybe thats just really wishful thinking. Have a doctor's appointment next week, so I'll ask then, but figured I'd see if anyone here has any info.

When I was TTC#1, my dr. told me to use the ovulation predictor kits after Clomid (I think it was beginning day 10, but don't remember for certain. It could have been 12). In the three cycles I used Clomid, I never saw a positive on the tests and bloodwork performed by dr confirmed that I didn't ovulate on Clomid. I called the nurse during one cycle and specifically asked if the ovulation tests could be wrong and she said they're pretty much always accurate. If I were you, I'd keep testing. I'm sure your dr will do bloodwork at your appointment next week, so you'll know for sure then. Hopefully, you'll see a positive soon.

I did two cycles of clomid when I also used the OPK. My dr recommended that I use them. Both times my LH did rise, and later sonograms confirmed that I did ovulate.
