U17 Boys National Team World Cup Qualifying/CONCACAF Championship

Anonymous
Has anyone been watching the U17s in the CONCACAF tournament in Florida over the last couple of weeks? They clinched qualification for the U17 World Cup earlier this week with a quarterfinal win over Panama, and are playing against Mexico for the tournament championship tonight. There are two locals on the roster, Griffin Yow and Bryang Kayo, who both play for DC United. The team is captained by Gio Reyna, son of Claudio and Danielle Egan Reyna, who played at UNC and for the women's national team back in the day. Notable players for the Mexican team include Efra Alvarez, who played for LA Galaxy's DA, and is well known among devotees of youth soccer twitter and internet forums.

I've enjoyed the parts of the games I've watched. It seems like there is a lot of talent on the team, and the coach, Raphael Wicky, has done a very good job with them. If you are interested, the championship game is at 7:00 tonight on Univision Deportes Network and CONCACAF's facebook page. Thank you. And thanks also for showing how useful this forum could actually be.

No, but we were at a DCU game a couple of weeks ago and Griffin Yow went into the game and got a big cheer from the fans. The kid is 16 and playing soccer with Wayne Rooney!

Yes! But thanks for filling in the blanks.

My sons played with Briang (in middle school) and we just saw this on twitter when he scored against Canada!

So happy for him!

He’s also going to wake forest ... that’s from his twitter post.

If anyone is trying to watch on TV, they moved it to Galavision. 1-1 at the moment.

My kids played with Bryang and his brother at Bethesda. Very nice family and it's cool to see him on a bigger stage.

This game is great! The US has hit the crossbar twice in the last few minutes. Lots of great passing from both teams.

I can't believe we didn't score any of those chances at the end of the half!

What a disappointing game ending for the US team.

Yeah, especially after that absolutely brilliant first half. The moved the ball so well and missed 4 or 5 goals by inches. They were clearly exhausted in the second half between the pressing in the first and 7 games in 2 weeks. The coach probably should have made more substitutions earlier. Great group though. It was a really fun tournament to watch.

You're right, I thought after those 3 off the post missed goals and the flurry of attack that momentum was in favor of the US. Sad to see that last cross just roll behind the US defense.

beautiful placement though and someone on the other end of it.
