We need it for one vacation this summer, where we plan on biking a lot in a national park. I’m finding them used for $50, but I can get it brand new for $70 with my Redcard at Target. Logical me wants the new one because I know all parts will work. Frugal me wants the used one that I can turn around and sell for $50. Which would you buy? |
Negotiate. I would not pay more than $35 used. |
Oh, we had that one. Its really heavy. Spend more and get a lighter/nicer one. |
What about if it’s a Trek? Found one for $55. They are $ new, but this one is used (no clue how used.) |
It depends on the new cost. |
I don’t pay more than half if it’s used. Saving $20 isn’t worth meeting up with someone when you can get it shipped free. So I would buy new.
However I would also buy a nicer one and consider used if the price was good. I only buy used if it’s a really bargain. I never understand why some people price online used items so high. |
Pp I would also consider what the rental cost is and consider doing that since they are large to transport. |
How much do you plan on using it? Rental might be the best way to go. |
I think given other's responses about lighter vs. heavier ones, I'd go and do the research at bike stores and find the one I want.
Then see if I could find that one at half cost. If not, buy the new one and then sell it for half price! |
