playdates

Quick question: I have 2 kids and recently had 2 playdates. The first was with a mother with an only child, she was intense and talked with me the entire time while our kids played together. The second, was with a mom of 3 kids and her youngest was 18 months. She was following her youngest around, while I watched my DD/her DD and her son was off somewhere where another mom was keeping an eye on him. I talked to her for a total of 15 minutes while we were there for the 2 hours. She also knew other parents there as well since she has an older kid. Does all this seem normal?

Why are you looking for a problem?

I think both sound normal.

Yes, both normal. Not sure what your concern is.

Everything sounds normal except you

People have different personalities and life situations, so yes, you'll have different experiences interacting with different people.

This sounds great. Both moms were doing what they could do to make the playdate happen for their child.

Don't understand what the issue is. Both seem totally normal. I was much more talkative when I just had one kid, and especially if my kid was old enough not to have to be followed around all the time. I was less so when I took my older one to a playdate or had people over when my second kid was a toddler and was getting into things and had to be supervised (and frankly, I was happy to get a bit of a break and didn't need to talk the whole time!).

This should be a sticky post in every DCUM forum category.

Question for OP - which of those do you think is not normal? I've been both of those hosts - sometimes both kids are occupied and I can chat with the visiting mom, sometimes my younger one is acting a little crazy, and I need to follow her around. With my 6 year old, about half of the playdates we've hosted have been drop off.
