Friend let her son pee on the Mall - is this normal?!

Anonymous
I need a gut check on this one from DCUMers. I met up with another mom friend and her kids to hang out near the Washington monument recently. When her 4-year-old son needed to use the restroom, rather than take him to stand in line at the public restrooms, she took him over to a fence surrounding the monument and let him pee right there. I was floored but she was so nonchalant about it I’m wondering if I’m the crazy one?! There were a good number of people on the Mall that day but I don’t think anyone noticed.

Please weigh in here, people! Is this a normal restroom option for my toddler? I mean, at least her kid didn’t poop!

4 yrs old is NOT a toddler. She should have taken him to the bathroom.

Not ok unless it’s an emergency.

OP here. Are you saying it IS okay for a toddler? Her kids are 4 and 2. Mine are 3 and 1.

Toddler is more understandable. But you said her son was four.

Not ok. I’ve seen this at the playground and it’s gross and lazy of the parent.

My boy pees in the woods or trees. Not on the mall, where others could see.

I wouldn't do it unless it was a case of the line being too long and I knew if he didn't pee right then he was going to spend the day in pee soaked shorts.

I think it is ok

At what age (if any!) would this stop being ok to you?
