Villarreal VA NPL experience

Anonymous
DD received an offer to join an NPL team. Any thoughts on this club? We are new to Annandale/VIVA. Thanks.

It's a terrible league on the girls side but pretty good on the boys. VILLAREAL I noticed is alway on a second or third tier team on tournaments. Try out for a CCL Team.

Their 05 boys just won the top tier of the Arlington tourney and looking at the other age groups their top team is alway in the first or second bracket of the tourneys they enter. Considering they typically only have 2-3 teams per age group it looks like they do very well on a per capita basis compared to the mega clubs with 6 teams / significantly more kids to get anomalies and stand outs.

Not great on boys side, at least not 06 boys...

NPL is a low league. If you aren't look at DA/ECNL, then look at CCL, EDP, or even NCSL before doing NPL. The other clubs just aren't that good.

If you are in Annandale, you have lots of options like BRYC, ASA, Mclean.

These comments all depend on age level, gender, and location.

For girls, NPL is better than 3-5 division EDP or div 2 or lower NCSL. Generally, top NPL teams are on par with 1st division NCSL (or top NCSL teams before u12), many CCL teams, and 2nd division EDP u12-13 and under. Older than u13 you should be more focused on assessing teams instead of leagues, as there can be wide variation in how good a team can be outside of in which league the club as a whole plays.

Completely disagree. At Boys 03 level, EDP AND NPL is head and shoulders above NCSL. And the entire CCL league is imploding. Several of the current CCL teams are leaving to play in ECNL, EDP, etc.

As others have said, it depends on the age level, boys or girls, etc.

For my son’s team, even the highest level in NCSL is lesser quality competition than the NPL league he played for in the fall and the current top EDP league his is playing for this spring.

NPL has become ECNL regional there are some good teams in NPL which have affiliations with DA teams. Some PT (part time) DA players play on some of these teams.

What CCL clubs are leaving? Or rumored to be?

There are no clubs leaving CCL to play in NPL.......NADA. There are some clubs that play in DA/ECNL, that is nothing new.

That's not what was said. Teams left the CCL to play in the ECNL - both BRYC and McLean. They've backfilled with lesser teams. Not sure I would say the league is imploding. Just transitioning.

Left Annadale years ago because well its Annandale (or Viva or whatever you want to call it now). They are terrible on so many levels. Went to nearby Alexandria and have had a great experience. This is my daughters 3rd complete year with them and its only reinforced why we left Annandale in the first place. Alex plays in CCL and in her age bracket I can say quite assuredly the NPL teams dont come close to the CCL teams. Just my opinion but you need look no further than the caliber of teams at the top end of both CCL and NPL to make a determination yourself.

Alex, BRYC, Arlington or any other but do yourself a favor and look beyond Villareal/Annandale/Viva

Can you just feel the righteous justification of someone’s decision flowing through you?

I feel it!! Well done

Agree with the prior. Too many other clubs to stick with one that is having issues. The multiple and lengthy threads on this club tell you all you need to know.
