Will SWW accept a geometry credit done over the summer?

Tried calling and can't get a straight answer. Are they likely to accept a on-line JHU credit, if we just go ahead. DC very focused on doing it.

I tried getting this answer. Here is what I understand. Geometry is a required course to graduate from DCPS.

It must be on the transcript.

Given the recent challenges in graduation requirements - and focus on this - we decided not to try and do something that was not clearly in their guidelines.

Whatever policy there is, it is going to be DCPS-wide, not specific to DCPS.

Online credits are sometimes accepted for students in credit recovery -- at risk of failing.

There are DCPS middle schools (I think Deal?) that offer summer Geometry. Not sure about Wilson. Perhaps your child can try to do that?

OP:

Thank you. Helpful to know I was not the only one who was not getting a clear answer here.

I'm hoping at least that there is a cohort of very strong math students in Geo in 9th grade then, as it's been an issue for my DC in middle school (non-DCPS school without opportunities to accelerate).

If they weren't good students - at least as good as yours - they wouldn't be at SWW.

+1. OP sounds a bit clueless about SWW kids, and may be surprised that her DC might not always be in the top there.

Geometry is the standard for 10th grade - I would assume that there will be a cohort of strong math students in 9th grade taking this given that these students:
1 - accelerated a year in middle school
2 - had the PARCC score to demonstrate math competency
3 - applied and were accepted at SWW

OP: I am not clueless about SWW. Some students in DCPS were able to take Algebra 1 in 7th grade (rather than 9th grade) and are two years ahead of the traditional math sequence.

Unless I am am misunderstanding what I read, the summer Geometry classes are summer school classes for students who failed Geometry, not elective classes for students who wish to accelerate.

Not at Deal.

DCPS accepts certain online or summer classes for Geometry. You have to call downtown to find out which specific programs they accept. I am just curious why does your student want to double accelerate in math? The vast majority of ninth graders at the school are in Geometry.

Any idea what office you call downtown?

LOL... but according to PP they are so advanced! I guess the fairly standard track of Geometry in 8th at Deal is not as common for those advanced Walls kids?

This isn't fairly standard at all. For this coming summer less than 20 out of close to 600 6th graders have been invited to take 8th grade math (allowing them to take Algebra 1 in 7th). Deal has been slowing down the math acceleration.
