How do you determine if your child should stay home from a cough? What if it's not quite bad enough to go to the doctor but a little too severe to be in the middle of a classroom?

Stay home and rest if DC isn’t well- Even if a Dr visit isn’t needed. Especially if sick I don’t need to spread the virus around to others.

My kids get allergy coughs. They are perfectly fine otherwise. They still go to school with cough drops. If they stayed every time they had a cough, they would miss a ton of school.

It depends on severity too, if it is just one cough now and then it is different then hacking all the time. Imagine teacher having a whole class like this, nobody would hear a think nor would be able to concentrate. Also you can for the most part tell if a cough is just a lingering cough after cold one recovered from otherwise or is it cough and tired, then something else is going on, doctor's visit advised.

Yes, try cough drops like Ricola or Halls, they are like hard candy that have herbal essences and honey so they are healthy and delicious. Very popular. And helpful.
Also try to put a vest on a kid at home for few days, for some reasons vests help healing cough faster.
