| For your next summer vacation? Going end of July. Three kids: 11, 9, and 7. Which do you think would be more fun? |
| I vote Acadia but I’ve never been to Vancouver. |
| Vancouver is a large city. Acadia is a national park with no large cities nearby. How can you really compare these two? |
|
It seems the BC attractions are spread out. MDI is a small island. It’s also easier to get to.
Acadia is a clear winner in my mind. |
| My favorite childhood vacation was RVing through Acadia and Maine. We drove the southern coast of Maine and did the ferry to Nova Scotia, drove around the coast up to Prince Edward Island, then back down. My brother and I were both in high school though. |
| I find Maine boring and overrated in comparison to the PNW, and I've been to both. |
| Do you mean Vancouver Island, or Vancouver the city? |
|
Been to both - Acadia, hands down. In Vancouver, you have to really work at finding the fun. I enjoyed my trip to Vancouver as an adult, newly married. It's like any other big city, really.
But, with kids, Acadia is the place to go. Ice cream stores, hiking, natural beauty everywhere, lobster, the national park. |
| Vancouver, by a mile! |
| What if you have 9 and 10 year daughters who don’t like to hike? Is Acadia still good? NP here. |
| I have been to both, and would vote Maine. Better weather, more to do for kids. More compact (don't have to take a ferry to an island). |
This is a hilarious comment considering ALL the things you listed can be done in Vancouver, and more. |
|
Very different places. One is national park and very cute seaside town (Bar Harbor). The other is a cosmopolitan international city. Maybe the only similarity is that they are both on an ocean.
What kind of vacation do you like? What do your kids like to do? |
If you don’t like to hike, why would you go to Acadia? Base yourself in Bar Harbor- not sure exactly what you’d do there for a week... |
My husband and I love hiking. Unfortunately our daughters do not despite our best efforts. We thought we’d give it one more shot and try Acadia with them since it’s so scenic there... |
