Cost for estate planning

What is the going rate in the DMV for a will, trust and POA? Is $2500 reasonable?
Anonymous
I think it is very reasonable. My husband and I spent $5000 to get a simple will, POA, revocable living trust, health care directive, and guardianship for minors.

OP here, so that seems in line since this is for one person as I’m a single parent.

We are paying a little more than that, closer to $3000. We have an extra house to bring into the trust so that raises the price a little.

There was a thread about this a few months back and seems like some people are getting it done considerably cheaper... but the quotes I've gotten are in your ballpark if not higher.

Generally it is a set price for standard documents regardless as to the number or amount of assets. We have substantial assets and 2 homes in our trust. The price would have been the same if we didn’t have those assets. Some lawyers charge hourly but we were cautioned to be suspicious of those not offering a set rate for at least the base documents. Hourly would only be appropriate for things above and beyond base documents.

I have a friend whose father was charged $2500 for base documents in Wisconsin so I think that rate is reasonable for around here.

We were quoted $3500 by a couple of places. So we gave up for a while...hope we don't die before we get round to doing it!

It can be done well for less if you go with someone with low overhead/solo practitioner. In MD consider Mary Beth Beattie
