2004 Odyssey O2 sensor replacement cost

Dropped it off at local repair shop. Anyone care to guess how much it’s going to cost? Parts and labor. Internet says ~500$. I hope not... ugh!

Time to look at new cars. So much changed since 2004 you might feel like you were in comma for the last 20 years and you woke up 50 years later. Go do some car shopping. You might need something to cheer you up for all the time lost.

Now.. 2019 Odyssey..

2004 model
The all-new model got re-engineered to set a new benchmark for the minivan segment through high levels of standard features and advanced safety equipment. The interior of the 2005 Odyssey emphasizes the style, features and sophistication of a premium luxury sedan - especially in the new Touring model. The addition of a new 60/40 Split Third Row Magic Seat with one motion operation, along with full-size second-row captain's chairs that can slide 10-inches fore and aft, adds new cargo and people hauling flexibility while maintaining the high level of comfort that minivan customers expect.

2019 model
The Honda Odyssey's sophisticated and modern new styling adopts Honda's signature flying wing front grille flanked by available LED front headlights. The bold and sporty front fascia also conceals a new Active Shutter Grille for improved fuel efficiency when cruising. The Odyssey's signature lightning bolt beltline now provides an even more elegant design element with the sliding door tracks hidden in the lower portion of the rear quarter windows. At the rear there are LED taillights and an available new hands-free power tailgate with foot activation. Inside, the new Odyssey features high-grade materials including a soft-touch instrument panel. The driver's meter features a new 7-inch, full-color TFT display, and in the center of the dash there is an available 8-inch high-resolution Display Audio touchscreen interface (EX and above). In upper grades, stain-resistant leather first- and second-row seating surfaces and door trim and black carpeting and black seatbelts are designed to conceal stains, while a new grooveless tambour lid on the spacious and versatile center console resists the accumulation of crumbs and debris.

Try to DIY. YouTube for instructions. O2 sensors are maybe 20-40 apiece, and are meant to be plug and play. $250 is a lot for a $30 part and 5 minutes of labor

Just go without the sensor

It is a $20-40 part that you can plug in yourself. There is an electronics plug you can remove with your hand, and then you just pull or twist off the o2 sensor yourself. Even if you are woefully ignorant about cars this is still a 10-20 minute job tops. A mechanic will do this in mere minutes

This is easier than changing your tires, changing your oil, or any of the other easy car tasks. Honestly if you can pimp your own gas, which entails opening the gas hood, unscrewing the gas cap, and inserting the gas pump, then you have already done all the tasks involved with changing an o2 sensor

maybe. I had a saturn vue that needed new OT sensors i ran the car up on ramps and got underneath it and i just didn't ever have the leverage I needed to get it off.

and I've dont brake jobs, installed differentials, and other complex tasks.

once I got it work an was able to get it on a lift and have abetter angle and leverage I was able to break it free.

So its not always super easy. and if you don't have a good floor jack or ramps. don't use the car jack supplied with the vehicle to do major car work.

Most gas stations have quick fix mechanics and they are awesome and cheap.

Swing a stick in the Washington area and you can find an independent mechanic or gas station with someone with plenty of experience changing O2 sensors. $200 is a reasonable price.

If you are cheap like me, you will buy the part for less than $50 and do it yourself after doing an internet search for videos showing people doing this exact fix on your year and model.
