My two sons will be in school next year (3 + 5) and will need to take the bus home along with our au pair. They will need to walk 2 blocks, take the bus and then walk another 3 (long blocks). I don't think it will be a problem but am concerned about bad weather days. Does anyone have a solution (car service or something) that has worked for them? |
buy a nanny car |
Rain coats and umbrellas |
Life is oh so simple when money is no object.... |
The au pair just has to account for how long it takes a 3 yr old to walk a couple of blocks. That's the only tricky part. |
Stroller for 3 year old on nasty days. |
You do not need a car service to avoid a five-block walk. That's what rain jackets, rain boots, and umbrellas are for. |
Agreed. We live close to the school, but that's what other families do. |
Nanny car doesn't have to be expensive. Get a used minivan. |
+1 and maybe an lightweight stroller for the younger one so they can move faster. |
Rainboots and shoes to change into at school. IME schools are not practiced at helping kids with walking commutes (we had a few days where the rainboots were locked in the classroom at the end of the day). So either have the nanny bring the rainboots home with her and take them back for pickup, or teach your kids to stash them in a backpack.
Lands end has good raincoats for kids. If you need a car for really lousy days, just order a Lyft. |
+1 Even on nice days, a lightweight stroller that is easy to take on the bus could be useful. At the end of a long day, my 3-year-old wasn’t always in the mood for even a moderately easy walk. |
