| Anyone have experience with this school? My child is interested in going to school somewhere in Europe but does not want a shock to the system. |
| Have you already read the appropriate threads on College Confidential and studentroom.co.uk? |
| I think St. Andrews is the go to school for Americans |
| Anywhere in Europe will be a huge shock to the system for an American student. |
| Our friend' DC is going in the Netherlands. |
| My nephew did. Loved it. Astrophysicist. |
|
it's a great school. nephew is interning at amazon in london after finishing his 3rd year there.
if you strike out on ivies here, go abroad. |
| DC just finished 3d year at Edi. It is a great school. |
| DD is graduating from Edinburgh in a few weeks. It’s been fantastic. But if your student “doesn’t want a shock to the system” please stay home, if only for the other Americans who are successfully integrating and getting a great education. |
| I agree that if you are worried about a shock to the system it is better to consider staying in the US, or at least NorthAmerica. Canada May be a gentler introduction to Johnny Foreigner. |
| +1 for Canada. Highly recommend McGill or Concordia in Montreal. Great place to be a college student. |
| DD got her Master's there. Had a great time and loved the city. She says the weather would get really old after four years, though. |
Because ivies are the only worthwhile schools here? That's absurd. Go abroad if you want the cultural experience or if a school offers something in particular that you want. But not because you think schools here aren't good enough for you. |
They seem to be merit based, less politics. |
| ^^ UK universities are ENTIRELY merit based. They don't give a f*ck who your parents / uncle / grandma may have been. |
