What is common in Burke / West Springfield

We are looking to buy in that area. Currently live in DC and have a nanny share for our toddler. Are nanny shares common out in that area for houses where both parents work? Or do families either have their own nanny or use daycare? Is pay comparable to DC?

I think most send their kids to daycare. I live in that area and tried to setup a nanny share with a few families and in the end they opted for a daycare instead. We use a nanny for our one child. We pay her $18/hr for 40 hours guaranteed and 80 hours PTO her choice. I think for your average family (like us) rates are around $17-25/hr for one child.

Live here too. Most people I know with little kids or that worked when they were younger use day care. There also though are many more SAHMs or moms that work once kids get to school or work more PT in flexible ways due to the very high military presence and the challenging of trailing spies to set up a career each time a move happens.

We loved living in Burke! Most of our neighbors had SAHMs.

Interesting. Was it hard to be a two working parent family when so many neighbors had SAHMs?

I would say it’s 50:50 in my area of Burke.

But I don’t know anyone who does a nanny share.
Most do daycare center or in home center.
Some do nanny but not as many.

Nannyshare is tricky out there because of unreliable commutes. The people i know out there usually either had a SAHM or they used daycare near their work or affiliated with their work.

There are still a large amount of moms who work - just I think fewer with 40-50hour a week office jobs.

That said a lot of the SAHMs I have met out here due it out of practicality due to moves not philosophical insistence on it. That means folks tend not to look down on working moms.

Biggest challenge has been the school - one kid’s school gets it and does evening stuff mostly. The other seems intentionally to schedule daytime events despite the challenge this has.
