Ouch! Lived in Syracuse for 9 years and believe it or not loved it but that is not untrue.

On another note, people who live in northern New York get a little sensitive about calling places like Syracuse (Central New York) and Buffalo (Western New York) upstate New York.

And don't even get them started on places like Binghamton, which is technically Western NY.

Ha! I'm from Western NY and am more bothered by places like Poughkeepsie being referred to as "upstate."

Ha! Pretty funny. Buffalo does close down early, and they get a shit ton of snow. I once did a 180 on the interstate in Buffalo. Luckily there was no one around to hit me.

Essex, NY on Lake Champlain felt extremely isolated and dead when I was there. I was happy that we were boating back to Burlington.

I am from Utica and I died watching it. What a shithole. Went to Proctor when it wasn’t even an accredited high school. I will say I got into a top college with a 1350 SAT.

No, it is not. Places where people regularly commute to NYC are not “upstate”.

- Rockland native.
