Mercedes 2020 GLS or BMW X7?

Anyone compared the two?

I looked at them briefly. I checked the exterior and interior. Mercedes seems bigger on the outside and the front is ideally the same as GLE but the back is longer and kind of so so proportioned. X87 seems better balanced and more within the visual proportion of other cars in the X series butof course it the biggest car of the X series.Inside they are both roomy but GLS seem larger. Both can come with three rows, not sure if it is the standard but I saw BMW with three rows and it was okay. I personally think that the BMW seems more "sexy" on the outside and GLS looks from the side more like a small bus. My impression is limited to seeing both cars in the showroom, therefore I have no idea about features and such because I did not get into it, I can not speak of a riding or driving experience.

If you want a big German car that is even roomier then the two and cost less then half of either one then look into Atlas. It is gigantic inside and very well appointed in general. You can have one with leather seats and everything else for 42K, if you don't care about the leather then lower trims can be had for around 30K. It is a beast! by no means smaller then the two above.

Exterior: I personally love the front of the GLS but prefer the back of the X7 so the ideal car would be half and half
Interior: There is something about GLS that makes me like it better. X7 feels like it is closing on me. I felt somewhat better in GLS.
You need to test drive both and see how you feel. It is possible that you will know which one feels like home just by sitting in it. It is like with homes, you step into a home and you know you would love to buy it. Pictures can only get you interested but the reality will present itself instantly.

Thank you for your input. I actually sat in the VW at the car show last month. It just felt so cheap to me. I didn’t realize they were that inexpensive, so I guess that’s why it felt that way.

You might want to read Dan Neil's review of the X7 first

Wall Street Journal gave a scathing review of the X7 a few weeks ago. This is the Dan Neil piece PP referenced.

That is not good. I guess I’ll stick with the Mercedes.

GLS is SO much nicer and roomier then GLE. Well worth the few pennies.

It’s not a few pennies. I suspect the new GLSwill be in the 80s. I actually saw the 2020 third row GLE and it was $70k. The 2019 GLS is about the same, but it’s very outdated now with the 2020 coming out.
