| So, what the heck? I have been to several graduations and you people show up and all it goo. For DD's school you need tickets. Ok, but we only get 5, we can request 1 more ticket! That is it 1. How do I explain this to ILS who are coming from out of state? First FIL didn't believe me that I didn't know the date till late, which I didn't, nobody did, now this? I did graduation announcements, but I will say that ILS don't actually ask if they should come or anything, they started talking about it last summer. There are over 15 of them. What are we supposed to do? I assume I am not alone in this conundrum? |
| At our school it’s only four tickets. You might be able to find people who aren’t using all of theirs and either buy them or get them to give you the ones they are not using. Most people don’t take that many people to a HS graduation. |
| Sorry about my spelling and all.... People show up and go in, and all is good! |
Which is perfectly fine, except my ILS use gradations of my children as an excuse to descend here for a week. They do stay in a hotel, so there isn't much I can do about it. They are in CO and Midwest so all their graduation were either at Red Rocks or high schools. |

Not unusual in this area. I know of several prestigious private schools that only give 4 or 5 tickets.
At this point you have to let your relatives know right away so people can change their plans if they want to. Or you can make the focus a nice graduation party and do everything you can to make the party the main focus of the day. |

MCPS is overcrowded and the schools are too big.
I agree that it’s insane that you have to limit the number of family members that are attending your kid’s HS graduation. Sorry OP. It’s ridiculous. |
not a good plan. You need a ticket. Do you want great aunt Doris turned away at the door? Sounds like a stressful and unpleasant situation |
| You should start asking for extra tickets on next-door or a neighborhood listserv. people sometimes have an extra one to give away |
that isn't OP's plan -- that was OP's expectation. |
| Many of the larger HSs have moved to U of MD. It is so much better. I think we had 13 tickets at RM last year and no trip down town. OP send out a message to the list serv. You can likely get more from another family. |
We are having a nice catered party. Hopefully they will accept that. |
| So, I just sent a group text about this.. and FIL replied to these news with "my lady friend will be coming after all." After she and he told me that she can't make it just two days ago. Not a word about the ticket situation! |
| OP, if there are 500+ kids graduating, and everyone brings 5 guests, that is already 500 students + 2,500 guests. Then add in faculty. That is over 3,000 people. DAR only holds about 3700 people. So, they can't do a blanket 6 tickets per kid, or everyone might not fit. |
It is my fault for not realizing that! I think they are fine with it so far based on their responses. |
That’s great! Just make sure everyone has a great time at the party and show how much you value them making the trip to celebrate your child’s graduation and everyone will be happy! |
