Surface pro charger

I have a fairly new surface pro that has mostly stopped charging. The charging light will go on briefly but then goes off again. It i unplug it or turn it off, it will again charge for a few seconds then go off. The cord still seems fine and the light does go in so the power is getting through, the charge just keeps getting dropped. It just started doing this yesterday and of course I have a report to finish.

Any suggestions? I am not sure if the issue is the cord or the battery or something else
