Help! DH needs a new wardrobe

Anonymous
DS's clothes are "sorry and dated" in his words. He almost left for a party tonight in faded jeans, old work shoes, and a plaid sport coat over a striped shirt. DS has no NICE casual clothes. All he has are suits for work or plaid shirts and old jeans. Where should we shop?

OP, there are wardrobe consultants who specialize in working with men. It's not just enough to go shopping - his closets need to be reviewed so he's less likely to pull out those old things. I'd check out www.aici.org and find a certified consultant who can help.

If you are short on time, then I might suggest a consultant, but for the 99% of us, I would suggest just going to the shops mentioned above or a few department stores and in one afternoon you can buy:

1) five button down shirts (blues, whites), nothing flashy.
2) two pairs of jeans: dark rinse
3) two pairs of khakis
4) wool trousers (dark grey)
5) three wool or cashmere sweaters (solid colors: red, green, grey, blue, are good colors)

Try on a few brands/styles and see how they fit. For pants, if you find a style that looks and feels good, buy a few of the same style. If you don't use dry cleaners, look for fabrics that are wrinkle free (you can find 100% cotton fabrics that are specially treated).

i think the gap and banana republic can solve all of your problems in one afternoon. that and a trip to the levi's store, if he doesn't like the jeans at either of those stores

After reading most of the comments, I have to say the clothing suggestions are boring and predictable. Do you really want hubby to look like all the other guys? There is nothing special at all in these clothing suggestions - it's a basic starter wardrobe for the most part.

I'm sure he's got a wonderful personality and would like a wardrobe to showcase that. You'd be surprised at how quickly a real wardrobe consultant can pull it together for you. Best of all, the hubby is much more likely to welcome the consultant's suggestions than yours - few of us listen to our spouses!

Thanks for sock popetting this thread.

OP's DH is looking for nice, casual clothes. Most guys I know want to look nice without standing out.

agree. especially if this guy has no fashion sense of his own to begin with. he doesn't want to make a statement. he just wants to look more current.

I'm 17:08 poster. Not suggesting your husband stand out. The usual stores - J Crew, Gap, BR, etc. carry predictable stuff. Looking understated is one thing - looking like everyone else and boring is another. No one gets excited over khakis and a blue shirt.......

A really good stylist knows all the stores and will ferret out a style that will make your husband and you, happy. Best of all, the consultant will do all the leg work and coordinating from multiple stores. He's also more likely to take advice from someone other than his wife.......

And would this consultant be Anne@trunkclub?

Sorry, pp, it just seems as though you are Anne's sock puppet.
