Hi! We submitted our SSN request at the hospital on April 18th, in DC at MedStar WHC. Does anyone know how long it takes to get a SSN? I need one to add DD2 to our insurance. Thank you!
Just go online to the social security office and reapply just incase - they have a form to download and mail in. Usually a few weeks.
It took about a month to get ours. We filled out all the health insurance forms and submitted then without an SSN, and just gave the SSN to insurance directly once we had it.
We had it in less than 2 weeks after submitting the paperwork at Sibley.
It was about two weeks for us, too. Submitted the form at GW last month and it came the same day as her two week pediatrician appointment.
It’s only been 4 days. Give it at least 2 weeks.
2 weeks or so for us.
You don’t need the SSN to add a newborn to your insurance. You can call them and add your child and then give them the number when you get it. The child is automatically covered under the mother’s SSN for a month or two if she gave birth in a hospital.
We waited for 4 months for a newly arrived nanny. There's a number we kept calling until it finally came.

Took us about 2 weeks or less, also delivered st WHC, in mid-March.
COngrats on the new baby! |
This. My insurance required the SSN within a month; I thought it would take far longer and was prepared to go to the SS office. Nope, I saw a photo of it in my informed delivery email on the morning I planned to make the trek. |
