Our Rising U15 boys travel teams are looking to add players to their rosters. The Blue team currently plays in NCSL Division 1, and the Gold team plays in NCSL Division 5. Tryout dates are April 29th and 30th, 7:00-8:15 p.m., Draper Drive Park field #1. Please contact Coach Michael Doherty (mikedoh4005_at_gmail.com, 757-240-0388) or Coach Milton Ceita DaCosta (milton0426_at_gmail.com) for more information. |
| Talented group with a coach who maintains a very positive environment. Definitely worth a look. |
| is there a 2007 tryout coming up? |
| Milton’s a good coach. |
I don't think we currently have a 2007 team. |
Where did all of the 2007 players go? Was it bad coaching or just moving on to bigger clubs? Its crazy that in NOVA a club can't field a single team in a prime age group. |
Honestly, I am not sure. I believe last year we were fielding a 2007/2008 group and for some reason they disbanded. I think the girls' 07 team moved en mass to SYC. |
All went to different clubs (Burke, BRYC, other places). The coach they had quit in the middle of a season (went to VYS) and it left a bad taste for the 07 parents. FPYC is a good, but small club, with loads of nearby competition, so no it's actually not crazy at all that they don't have a few age groups. |
You would think the club would hire a new coach. I think many of the parents with kids on the B or C teams at BRYC, BURKE, PAC, Vienna. would jump at the chance to play for the A team over their current B or C teams. |
After the teams went birth year, FPYC had one 07 team that following year. The parents and players hated the coach. He was a UK Elite guy. The parents claimed the kids got worse throughout the year. After the year, the 07s disbanded. As someone mentioned, they went to other teams or stopped playing all together. That coach became the 08 boys coach and they actually liked him quite a bit. The following year, that coach became the 08 and 09 head coach and it seemed like at least the 09 parents didn't like it and the 08 parents soon followed. They combined age group practices, so poor player to coach ratios. Kids clowning around. Everyone got worse. The coach quit mid year and went to a neighboring club. The 08 and 09 teams folded after the spring. The club put out an advert on who the coach the 08/09 coach would be but he was already on LMVSC website as being a new coach there for the following year. (Can't make this stuff up.) So it's amazing how one coach was sort of responsible for the collapse of 07s, 08s, and 09s. I heard that several parents have gone to the club recently and asked them to try to resurrect the 07s and have tryouts but the club says no. I remember a year or two ago, they did advertise 07 tryouts and kids showed up at Draper but no coaches or admin or anything from FPYC showed up to run the tryout. Again, can't make this up. It's true that the 07 girls team folded too. I heard the 06 boys won't be with FPYC next year either. I also heard that the 2010s were going to disband over the winter but they didn't. They stuck it out through the spring. No idea if they will have a team next year. Lastly, I heard that Reston Soccer/GFR is trying to help FPYC get their crap back together. |
Wow. Insane. They've had some unbelievably good teams in younger age groups over the years. I think the Joga crew used to be there and they absolutely decimated the top big clubs for a year or two in a couple of age groups. |
|
Yeah, to add to that, the UK Elite boss/FPYC TD quit right before the fall season started and that was the reason that one coach took on the 08s and 09s. UK Elite could not hire any quality coaches and the club I think had an agreement where travel teams HAD to use UK Elite coaches so it was a disaster. FPYC separated from UK Elite last year so we'll see if they can get back on their feet.
As to Joga, I still have no idea what happened but I think FPYC didn't want Keph as TD and they went with UK Elite and like a line was drawn in the sand. So Keph formed his own dedicated teams that decimated the I guess older 06s, 05, and younger 04 age groups of FPYC. So instead of FPYC and Joga being symbiotic, they became opponents. Joga didn't want FPYC's younger 06s and older 07s, which was a strong group so most of them went to Bethesda South and are now scattered around on various teams. It's not like Keph and James had some magic secret at Joga. They were fun, nice guys with the kids. Inspired the kids. Trained hard. Taught good soccer and just gave the kids tons of opportunities to play. The kids they attracted were alphas so they made each other better. But 30 alphas didn't last very long as the parents always looked for greener pastures. Now it's all just crap in the Fairfax area. |
| UK Elite was a mess which is why they’re not there anymore. There’s a couple good coaches and some decent talent to be found in that area, but obviously it’s not a huge club. |
Interesting. Where are the '06s going? |
|
Yeah, the club overall has turned into a complete mess, but they still have access to good turf fields, the 05 boys are a good team with a lot of skill, and the coach (Mike Doherty) is a good guy. NCSL D1 is not at the level of DA, EDP, CCL or VPL, but it's not terrible either.
