Land Rover Discovery Sport? Worth the money?

Anonymous
Shopping for a new car. Discovery Sport is on the 8th spot of my list of contenders but the more I read the more I wonder if I should drop it off the list. Some problems people mention that were present in the previous years models up until 2018 included things like sluggish shifting (hesitation, launching - dangerous), stuck shifter knob. This one scares me somewhat: Exhaust fumes in cabin in some 2015 to 2017 models that I was not aware of. Unknown check engine indicators, having to go to shop 10+ times and a host of other medium to minor problems.
Since I do not know anyone who owned or owns Discovery but I see it on the streets of DC area, perhaps someone could shed some light on the experience of owning it? I would hope most problems have been solved but somehow I can not find any uplifting reviews. Between Discovery Sport and similar sizes of BMW , Mercedes and Audi the price advantage does not seem to exist so reliability is a valid question.

Hmm.. apparently they are releasing a new completely redesigned inside and outside, bigger, and more beefed up with all kinds of junk and finally bit more modern interior, Discovery Sport 2020 model in just two months or so. Yet again! Didn't they only just like a couple of years ago?
Never a dull moment with them.

Apparently the Discovery Sport panoramic roof does not open at all. Why? It is so behind with all other brands and models. Seriously?

Are you buying a used one? Are you planning to keep it for more than 3 years?

Since it's low on your list (8th), perhaps stick with the top 3 or 5?

At this time Volvo XC60 is better buy, it has so much more modern and current technology and updated interior then Discovery 2019, but the 2020 model is most likely to catch up with it or even surpass since they promise to finally match the interior of Discovery Sport with the high end Land Rover cars.

The 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport gets closer to its reveal later this summer, and it will be all but brand new. The brand's bestseller gets off the D8 platform, moving to the Premium Transverse Architecture shared with the Range Rover Evoque. The multi-material bones are stiffer, will provide more room inside, and are designed for various levels of electrification. Land Rover will want the 2020 Disco Sport to uphold the model's brand values of "versatility, intelligence and breadth of capability" while putting up a better fight against competitors like the Volvo XC60.

"That starts with a familiar exterior design that adds rugged touches and puts more space between the Disco Sport and Range Rover models. Based on spy shots from late last year, we expect new front and rear fascias with updated lighting, and tweaked profile lines. Land Rover says that small changes to the body will mean less wind noise and 10 percent less drag.

That should make the larger cabin even more quiet. Passenger quarters will also take a step up in perceived quality and fall into line with the rest of the Land Rover range. Expect a layout similar to the Range Rover Evoque, with two screens and Touch Pro Duo infotainment, as well as buyers getting the option of ethical textiles instead of leather. Technology updates run the range from offering a 4G wi-fi hotspot and over-the-air updates for navigation and apps, to a "smart rear-view mirror" and the Evoque's Clearsight Ground View.

It's possible that all of the powertrains will use a 48-volt electrical architecture, easing the load on the 2.0-liter Ingenium engines. New motor mounts and an upgraded transmission will return better throttle response to the tune of 40 percent. A plug-in hybrid, with batteries mounted under the floor, will employ a new three-cylinder gasoline engine and run almost 50 miles on electricity."

It definitely matters. You will have some very expensive repairs if you keep it 8 years. I do not recommend. Just paid $2k to get my brakes done on a 2 year old range.
