| My kid just started driving. He is looking for a reliable used car about 3 to 5 years old to drive for a few years before he upgrades. Something like a Honda Civic or Mazda 3. Any advice on what other similar cars to look at? His budget is under $20k. |
| Best deal is a brand new Chevy Cruz. They are discontinuing model and could get a new nice one for 14k. I got one for daughter as at 14k could just get a used Honda with a lot of miles. Rather have brand new same price. My wife steals it a lot as she loves the gadgets and MPG |
| VW Golf cool cute cheap fun to drive. Lots of young people drive it. New will fit your budget. |

Fun to drive?! Cool?!
NO WAY for a teen. Get a clue. |
| What happened to getting a kid a 5k vehicle to drive for a couple years? |
Won’t have latest safety features |
Such as? |
Thanks, PP. This looks like a really good possibility for us (not OP). |

What safety features? New driver needs to learn to watch out for other cars and not depend on the car to save him. Front and side airbags and good to go.
Have him/her drive Civic or Mazda3 and pick. Both are great starter cars. |
| Your kid saved 20k for a car? Impressive. |
Starter cars? How out of touch some of y’all are...travel more. |
| Brand New Civic |
| Toyota Corolla — peppy enough acceleration that it won’t be spooky for a new driver. They are very reliable too and not unattractive. |
Also unreliable and expensive to repair. |
Not under 20k |
