| I don't no much about wine but prefer it over other drinks but can't afford expensive.I realize, for this price it won't be something like for $200 but could be not worse than $25. Our most frequent choice is BV Cabernet. Do you have your favorite? |
| op here. please forgive me "buts" - end of the day, and english is my 2nd language. |
| I love Penfolds wines from Australia. Lots of places carry them and they are consistantly great. Some of the lower priced wines are screw top, which I love (after some getting used to). Koonunga Hills is a shiraz/cab that is great and is in that price range. I think they also have a merlot in that range. If you're looking to drop more $, go with their Bin 389. It's $30-40 but I love it. |
| I just got a Santa Barbara Winery ZCS (zinfandel, carignane, and sangiovese) for $15.99 at Rodmans, and it was very nice. |
| I second Penfolds!!!!! their wines are indeed consistently good. I also like Lindemann's wines (also Australian wines). |

I avoid Australian and US wines at this price point, as they tend to be pretty chemically and formulaic - v. oaky chardonnay etc.
For 10-12 dollars you can get a reasonable Gruner Veltliner or albarino from Austria or Spain, or if you prefer red, a Chilean or Spanish Carmenere or rioja. The wine guy in rodmans is great and will help you out. |

Ravenswood (merlot, cab), St. Michelle (merlot or chardonnay), and Penfolds, are good. I think CA wine is better than french wine. If I'm going to spend more I'll go for Rhone (chateauneuf du pape), an Italian wine (Barolo) or Cakebread (if I'm going to spend alot) but I am not that into wine. You could also try one of the washington state pinot noirs.
I'll spell this wrong but there is a Beaujolois (george DuBouf? something le fleur?) that is less expensive but good for this type of wine if you really want french. |
| bully hill! i used to love that wine. haven't seen it around these parts. where do you find it? |
| Wegmans for Bully Hill. You should also be able to order it online. |

If you go to one of the big wine stores like Total Wine or someplace like Calvert and Woodley, they have people who will help you pick good ones no matter what your price range is. I used to work in TW's Baltimore store in college and the wine assoc's really knew their stuff. I remember cheekily trying to stump him by asking about hot dogs. Without missing a beat he said Gewurztraminer.
Anyway I like Ravenwood's Vintner's Blend Zinfindel and I second Georges DuBoeuf's Beaujolias. I really like Cavit's Pinot Grigio. |
